The play is loosely adapted from the 1996 film of the same name created by Olivier Assayas and starring Maggie Cheung. The limited series revolves around American film star Mira, who is disillusioned by career problems and a recent break-up. Mira travels to France to play Irma Vep in the remake of the classic French silent film "Vampire". Over the course of filming this crime thriller, Mira gradually finds that the distinction between herself and her characters blurs.
