In 1909, a Danish Arctic expedition led by Captain Einar Mikkelsen (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau) attempted to disprove U.S. claims to northeast Greenland, a dispute that arose because At the time it was assumed that Greenland was two islands. Mixon leaves the crew on board and embarks on a journey across the ice with inexperienced crew member Ivor Iverson (Joe Cole).
